If you're coming from a big city with all its big city ways, you may have developed some survival skills that won't serve you so well in a sweet little town like Prescott.  In this episode, we discuss what neighbors are like here and how you can best become a welcomed part of the community.

hello hello hello hello hello hello hello peeps I felt a song coming up yeah I was thinking Age of Aquarius kind of somebody here is teaching himself the piano so yeah all night long I hear the 80s Aquarius over and over and over it’s been great there is aligning with Mars that’s what they say this is Diana Randall bro here in Prescott I am your local pickle lady I always have pickles on me so in fact yesterday I’d say this I was at the gas station and three guys came up to the van I have to be honest I was a little alarmed at first I was like hey can I I was they just showed up and they’re like do you have pickles and I relaxed and I said I sure do and they’re like do you really I said I sure do so if you see me in my van which has pickles emblazoned all over it I always carry pickles with me and I’m happy to share them with anybody even at the gas station she produces about five gallons of pickles a month that’s right and we actually one of the things on the calendar every month is the recycle production restock the cars with Pickles that’s right so anyway happy to share but uh and that’s that’s just all in as we call in a size this is an assignment that’s what we call it in the biz In The Biz this is inside yeah but anyway uh so uh this is Randall and Diane bro here your local agents uh Elena she’s speculating and I am also the pickle lady I I wear both hats and I enjoy wearing both hats uh so we wanted to talk today a little bit something about something called good names good neighboring something important you need to understand about the city of Prescott yes is that city of Prescott is a small neighborly Town yes and the whole idea I remember years ago there was a insurance company and their slogan was like a good neighbor State Farm is there a State Farm full yeah State Farm yeah okay uh there was a company there was a company name which is a great whoever did that advertising great slogan great slogan yes the only problem is people have lost the concept of a good neighbor yeah so they had to change their they had to change their marketing because nobody knows what that means I know well I hope it’s still alive and well it’s still are very much alive and well in Prescott and so I kind of wanted to give everybody a little education when you’re moving here and particularly if you’re coming from a big city or a big metropolitan area you’re used to get congestion and traffic and your walls are up in Europe you’re always on the defense and you’re you know there isn’t um that one-on-one contact because you’re afraid somebody might you know jump you or something yeah yeah when you move to Prescott leave all of that behind in the big city don’t need to do that here um if you have a problem with a neighbor here you don’t need to immediately go to homeco or your HOA company yeah you don’t need to immediately or call the cops or anything like that we are a sweet still laid-back yeah gentle little town you know people you can nicely go knock on the door and say hey can I talk to you about something yeah and um everybody here is pretty chill yeah uh provided you don’t go in with guns blazing and your calm cool and collected most people here are very receptive and kind and say oh my goodness thank you for sharing this with me I didn’t know and I’m going to work with you on whatever the issue may be well it has a little warning here too if you do go in guns blazing and call the police or oh yeah your HOA or whatever for being a good neighbor your your well is going to get poisoned like we again we are a small town yes and word spreads fast yes so if you do something like you move in and three weeks later you’re reporting somebody if you’re brand new head out yeah and that’s it then you’re the difficult that’s your brand that’s right so here’s the thing when you move when you do that usually when you move in neighborhoods here people have been here a number of years so we all have established relationships we’re all neighborly if you’re the new kid on the Block and you’re only here two or three weeks and you’re already starting to complain about somebody and Reporting them or calling the police it’s not going to be good for you you’re going to be labeled that new difficult neighbor who came from the big city yeah you don’t want that reputation you don’t want it and you don’t need it chances are you’re going to come here you’re not knowing anyone that’s right I want to develop some friends not a good person not a good first step so to all of our folks moving from big cities from all over Washington California uh Oregon we’ve got people from New Jersey you know what we’re chill here it’s chill why you want to be here that’s why you came here yeah yeah so we just want to give you a little public service uh information so that you you get started on the right foot absolutely take that first right step uh no need to do all that and of course we certainly don’t want to talk about suing and all that oh no we don’t do that here we’re chill uh Prescott’s Uber chilled yeah yeah nice small town friendly people will respectfully listen um and try to help you out and make adjustments if they need to for whatever you’re having an issue with hopefully a good tip a good tip so just want to let you know leave your big city ways we had to do it too we came from a big city and we really Dry Heat

Take it from two folks who grew up in the steamy South, Prescott's version of dry heat is the bomb!  In this episode, we contrast life here with life under water (in places like New Orleans and Texas) and life in a blast furnace (in places like Phoenix).  We also discuss some helpful tips for people making the transition to a life in which you are no longer constantly dripping with sweat.

hello hello hello hey i’m so excited to be here this morning prescott pickle lady prescott arizona feeling good feeling energetic yeah i’m just i’m i’m trying to support you are you yeah because you’re throwing me off yeah anything very very good are you finished yeah okay all right you’re on all right this is diana randall bro your local husband and wife pickle team uh here in prescott arizona i am the pickle lady uh just jarred 75 jars of pickles yes i’m ready for my next wave of buyers so i can share my pickles with everybody yeah if you have not tried your pickles people listen you gotta get some good they’re good stuff americans i have to say i do enjoy them but i think you know honestly i really just have fun making them too you know i just jar anyway it’s just i’m part of the fun part of this job love to share love to share them but anyway we are here today to talk about the dry heat diversity heat and i will share this with you we are from the deep south excuse me we’re from actually we’re from uh the new orleans area which has got to be the most human place i haven’t been anywhere that is more human i agree yeah so here’s the interesting thing we used to kind of miss the humidity i mean we kind of liked it it’s like oh it feels you know good it’s soft on your skin blah blah blah then we moved here uh now we’ve totally adjusted to the dry heat so we went back to recently to visit new orleans it was kind of torturous it was like just being damp yeah the whole time the whole time you know you go into a room with air conditioning and it’s just damp and so anyway although people will come here and they’re like oh this dry heat this dry heat it actually feels pretty good it feels painful yeah really you get used to it quickly um and no one has done more of a transition than we have coming from new orleans it doesn’t get any more human than that nope and we went back and it was torturous yeah i was really surprised we missed this dry heat you missed the dry day so as long as you honestly drink drink drink when you move here you must learn to drink water all day long because you will not sweat like you will in humid areas so before you know it you might be dehydrated you don’t even know it sneaks up on you sneaks up on you uh so as long as you keep yourself hydrated um put some lotion on uh so for your you know if your skin gets a little dry yeah it’s a beautiful thing to drink beautiful thing you have good hair days pretty much every day great hair days you know you don’t have to set your hair and you walk out it falls flat or it freezes out you know what i mean uh which is what we were used to yeah you start to feel a little hung over that’s the that’s that’s the sign or you can start getting a headache that needs a little bit of a headache that sort of hangover headache it’s a special kind of special kind of pain that means you need to get some water but once you kind of get those two things in place and put your lotion on and everything you too will totally adjust to the dry heat you’ll love it the beautiful thing about dry heat and you know low humidity is that in the winter especially you’re not it’s not that bone chilling cold i mean although our temperatures may dip low because it’s a dry heat you know you you still kind of walk out with just a sweater on yeah you know and you don’t even feel it whereas in some other areas of the country when it rains or it’s damp even if it’s just in the 50s you feel a lot more get a lot more aches and pains this dry heat is a cool thing well i tell you this people talk about phoenix having dry heat you know arizona dry heat drinking drinking listen if it’s 120 degrees it doesn’t matter if it’s dry or that’s true you’re going to vaporize and he just it’s not a good thing we don’t get that high we don’t get those temps right now we’re recording this it’s in june june tends to be the hottest month of the year in brexit uh we get into the mid 90s maybe have a couple of days where it’s high 90s yeah approaching triple digits but we don’t get anywhere close to where phoenix and other areas in the valley here get people tell you oh you know it’s 120 but it’s a dry heat yeah you vaporize yeah i know that that kind of dry heat i don’t like yeah i like our brisket meat we like the press get dry yeah we’re comparing 95 degrees and prescott to 95 degrees in new orleans yeah that’s too different yeah and dry heat winds hands down take it from two people who have lived it done it lived it walked it yeah so the other good thing is you know although june is our hottest month and it heats up uh it sets the monsoon pattern yeah so shortly after those monsoons start coming in and then it really cools down it’s so pleasant you get a nice cool breeze some a few clouds take out some of the sun we had uh this past week we had a little taste of it yes i was so excited kind of rain clouds coming i’m like oh my gosh it’s coming it’s coming so the good thing here about prescott keep in mind we may be in the 90s in the daytime but every evening it drops to the 70s and we have a nice breeze in the evening and we set out yeah we’re out last night we were out over a friend’s house they had a couple of yeah a couple a couple of us over uh for dinner and we sat up and this is the hottest month of the year after dinner it was so comfortable and so nice a nice breeze it was nice so if you are looking to make a change uh if you’re coming from the northeast this is your place this is your place you’re gonna love it yeah four seasons none are too extreme yeah if you’re thinking about arizona and you’re thinking more on the phoenix area come check us out before you commit to anything absolutely you’ll probably like it better here yeah all right on that note we just wanted to share our excitement about dry heat and how we’ve now fully embraced it yeah uh we love it it’s a part of our life what damp damp is that i thought you meant Cool Trees

Prescott is its own little ecosystem, so the plants and animals you see here can be quite different from what you're used to (especially if you've grew up in - say - the swamps of Louisiana).  In this episode we call out some of our very favorite trees, which we were delighted to discover when we moved here.

to help you to serve you uh amazing customer service if i say so myself but anyway here to talk about cool trees yeah this was something you know now that we’re kind of spring has sprung we’re heading into summer all of our beautiful trees here you know we’re from the deep south yeah so we have now been exposed to trees we’ve never seen never heard of we’re from the land of oak trees and spanish moss cypress and all that pine trees just plain old pine trees so when we moved here we were like wow yeah what is this tree that’s just getting leaves and blossoming and completely different floor totally different so we just love it and one of my favorite is the smoke tree smoke trees are so cool so cool you won’t find them down i thought it was the strangest thing i remember the first time i’m driving through prescott lakes yeah they take us on smoketree and i was like why is this what do you smoke but we actually have trees here and they call them smoke trees and the reason why is a certain time of year now it’s basically now right now right now we’re in june yep this is it this is it you can kind of see why they call them smoke trees it’s like uh they’ve got this sort of fluffy thing fluffy little flowers looks like the leaves are kind of purple um and they’ll start leafing out first and then these little puffs of this little flower comes out and it looks like little cups of smoke so in prescott lakes one of the main drags on the way to the club is called smoke tree and it’s lined with these smoke trees so now i get it now again connection yeah and um so those are really unusual beautiful trees i’ve never seen them where i’m from so i appreciate that yeah i don’t know how far i feel you can go uh where how far out smoke trees are whether that’s uh yeah i don’t know not to look at it but they’re big here yeah they’re very big here very big here another one that’s uh really cool is the quaking aspen yeah beautiful trees beautiful and the winds blow and the leaves they literally quick and shaky and it’s just but it’s just beautiful to see the breeze go through them and it’s all leafy and green and you know both that one and the um smoke tree they will lose their leaves yeah but then it all comes back in the spring and summer and it’s just beautiful and of course an aspen when it when it loses its leaves it’s beautiful in the fall it’s just beautiful yeah it’s got that silver bark yeah that’s really cool i like a good aspen not a good good aspirin everybody likes a good um yeah i get it the other tree that we would uh we would call out is called the red leaf plum what’s your favorite favorite yeah also purpley who are you talking to this is this is my very favorite and it’s a beautiful tree and it goes through very different phases yes um so most of the year it it kind of looks like the leaves are made of like a red purple leather almost or velvet it’s like so descriptive yeah they’re beautiful beautiful trees just sort of normally yes uh but when they blossom in the early spring they look like cherry blossoms they do it does it looks like you’re in washington dc washington amongst the cherry blossoms that’s true bright bright pink light pink beautiful yeah and they almost look like a snow cone yeah absolutely it’s stunning so and there they are fruit trees you know what else i love them we didn’t talk about this but i love it’s called a desert willow oh okay and sometimes a desert willow is more it’s usually a bush but some of the uh landscapers will train it to grow into a tree and that takes very little water it’s in the willow family but it makes beautiful purple and pink flowers yeah all throughout the summer so it’s a little different than your traditional weeping willow which is what i’m used to so i’m all about the desert willow yeah yeah one of the things you look forward to in coming here is learning all the local flora and fauna the different kinds of trees they have here we’ve done an episode before on birds and the crazy kinds of birds that we get here a lot of birds coming through so there’s a great variety yeah uh and just taking the time to learn more about the local nature and yeah and you know uh citrus doesn’t do so well here citrus trees because we do get kind of chilly willy in the winter yeah but i tell you what cherries plums um what are some of the others well the red leaf plums we mentioned yeah before they are edible and they’re actually pretty good yeah apples apricots yeah apples not a problem not a problem all those and those two are just as equally beautiful so anyway we’ve had fun kind of learning about all the different trees and enjoying them it’s something we’ve never got to experience down in the south so here it’s like a whole new world people a whole new world you can learn all kinds of new things here yeah and expand your horizons and isn’t that what it’s all about get yourself some cherries or some red plums aspen grab yourself and grab grab and ask rub it out and grab this mask i don’t know if there’s anything you can eat no but it’s so pretty i like the way it shakes though i like that shaking the shaking aspen anyway okay so yeah i can tell you we’re heading in that direction we’re trying to connect it together yeah i get it it’s not easy being a comedian folks not easy being a realtor either if you’re looking for information about real hi folks hello peeps randlyn diambro here here with pickle lady prescott arizona we’re so happy to be here this evening your real estate agents at large that’s right at large we’re talking about everything that is prescott whether it’s real estate whether it’s restaurants whether it’s javelina page so that we we will we cover it all so in this little topic we’d like to cover religion religion and religious groups religious groups i love prescott arizona um they are very open they have all kinds of groups here that welcome everyone from all walks of life we have the catholic church we have the jewish synagogues we have the non-denominational yeah non-denominational churches community groups of all kinds but what makes the religious groups in prescott a little different than in other cities is a lot of time religion is about raising children in that religion so i was you know i was surprised at how many questions we get about religious groups here at prescott yeah i still don’t know if anyone has ever asked us about schools here never we we get maybe a hand maybe twice a year with questions about schools yeah but mostly because we are a retirement town people are calling about you know tell me a little bit about the religious community yeah that’s very social a community connection thing it’s really not about church and the building per se it’s more about what is the community outreach through different groups and sometimes it’s just social activities with people common faith or close enough [Music] all very open and loving and welcoming and you can get involved in a lot of social outreach we have a few uh non-denominational uh christian churches that well in texas they call them mega churches because well they’re huge yes i don’t know if they’re as big as they are in the city of houston i know everything is bigger in texas yeah everything’s bigger in texas everything’s bigger even the religions even the that’s religions here that the communities may be smaller but they’re very active uh you know we see people that different churches will have different uh uh logos or decals or whatever and you’ll see the cars and everything and yeah it’s it’s a it’s a going thing but i mean i think the big thing for me is total acceptance yeah absolutely of all religions of all walks of life yeah um nobody’s really hardcore here we’re all pretty accepting and loving and happy to reach out to help others and that’s what it’s all about people right that’s right especially as we get older and we’re retirement age right we’re reaching the shooting it shut up we’re reaching we’re heading into the show so it’s all about service to others kindness to others uh love towards others and honestly i’ve never felt anything other than love and acceptance here in prescott absolutely no matter what persuasion you are religious persuasion um yeah absolutely now that the churches are active so you know if you’re used to the kind of church where people go and you know they kneel and pray and then they stand up and pray and they kneel and pray and then they do the sign of the cross and leave maybe not be for you because these people actually get in the community they do food drives and all kinds of service activities and social activities it’s more about the activity it’s feel good religion feel good feel good religion i think it’s a great reflection on the city absolutely 100 so we wanted to say to those of you thinking about prescott we have it all here we have all we cover all religious bases all religious backgrounds yeah and we are very welcoming and accepting of all those and there’s a place for you and there’s a place for you to provide service to others uh you’ll love it we love it so good to us so anyway we just thought we’d kind of share that with you in case you were having any questions yeah and i apologize that it took us this long to mention you know churches and synagogues and things like that we got it when i was just kind of thinking it was one of those school things we got a few calls we had a call about synagogues and yeah we had a call about churches not too long ago and so yeah we should just tell people yeah people pray here and you know they worship here and they we got you covered whatever you are probably you’ll find it if you’re into the god thing we got you covered if you look for information the place to get is pickle411.com that is our free information site whether you are a buyer of homes a seller of homes or you just want to go to church you can check it out at pickle411 you will find the information you need there to get yourself plugged in locked in locked loaded ready to fire and sending on your way that’s right and we are happy to help you and uh guide you on your path absolutely so anyway it’s uh something what are the neat attributes of preston we got some good stuff going here people so come on in join us come visit us give us a call take care have a good evening bye

Kudos to Yavapai County

Do you get hives at the thought of dealing with local government agencies in your area?  Well, in Prescott you may find things are different... and better.  And if you get close enough, you may smell a skunk pig.

what up what up what up what’s going on folks randall and diane brew here located in the heart of prescott lakes the very heart the very heart you are the heart that’s really but i am glad to be here uh this evening to talk to you about the county county kudos yavapai county so yamaha is one of those words that people don’t know how to pronounce true so we should probably start there i agree yeah so the word is pronoun my understanding of the word is the way that it’s pronounced is yavapai as in do you have a pie yes do you have a pie you have a pie you have a pie sure do and the answer is javelina you will see a lot of them here in prescott they are an interesting little critter yeah but uh yeah that’s his favorite joke he loves to tell him it never lands you know well i should say it lands with a phone yeah yeah i enjoy the thud that’s why i keep going there do you know what happened is a skunk fig oh is that well i mean it does yeah what do you does it you say about clothes i’ve never been close enough to smell well i’ve yeah they they are not a pretty critter i’ll say that they’re not yeah i could see where that would that’s an accurate description pungent pigs uh did we introduce ourselves i don’t know doing i don’t know she’s pickling i am diane and this is randall bro i am the pickle lady located here in prescott arizona we’re a real estate agent correct and we talk about real estate and prescott a whole bunch of other stuff lots of stuff lots of stuff foolishness foolishness mostly but today we’re here tonight a lot of fun yamapai county so prescott is in yeah those of you in louisiana that’s what other people call back a parish correct so uh we had a client who did a project and somewhere along the lines somebody lost uh the paper trail with permits yep yep so they finished out their their uh construction project it expanded the square footage with that which they’ve been enjoying for over 10 years and they would sell their home and the county has the very old square footage way back when so yeah we kind of had to kind of had to straighten that before so when that happens it’s easy peasy you call the county and you just say hey we need to revisit this um but what we were super impressed with was they were like the next day hey we’re coming out to re-measure and update the county records and we’re like really already yeah absolutely yes now if you’re from an area of the world like i am where the performance of the local government agencies are less than stellar then you know what i’m thinking so there there could be a permit issue which is a function of prescott valley city city of prescott valley and that affects the square footage square footage comes on under under the domain of yavapai county county city so now you’re dealing with government employees from two different entities uh it could get dicey yeah i’m like oh this could get crazy this could be a six-month event yeah but what we found was no oh my god it was so simple they were amazing i explained it once and they got it right away he came the next day the very next day i called and i said um i explained the situation about square footage and he’s and i i i think it was a lady she says um well you’re in luck uh we are in the process now of going through the valuation the assessment evaluation process and so if you fill out the following two forms yeah she did it better than i could so uh she said the deadline is tomorrow get the forms done and get them into us tomorrow don’t mail them drop them off and she explained where yeah uh we can get somebody out right away because we’re in the middle of that process and i’m thinking sure sure right right the next day the gentleman came uh he called the name before he showed up the next day he was super nice of course i gave him a jar of pickles yeah yeah that always helps it always helps smooth pickles even everybody out it really is a magical event when you stand out jiggles that’s your gift to the world it is amazing how many people really love people but anyway maybe that was the secret and you know the pv people that are prescribing people uh completely understanding too everyone immediately got that there are two entities involved and we’re going to have to kind of do this together no problem i was just astounded at how well and and how competent they were how easily they understood what was a pretty weird situation and uh uh very polite and efficient and i’m like oh my god it’s like a well-oiled machine something we’re not used to from where we came from so we thoroughly appreciated it so i appreciate it to the county hats off to you you have a pie you have a pie we thank you uh for your prompt response your professionalism um your whatever your effectiveness effectiveness how expedient i mean how many other words can we say i don’t know i don’t know i need a thesaurus we need a thesaurus my my thesaurus is terrible and it is also terrible also a very old i think we gave a very old joke yes i think we gave some good words yeah you did better than i did so if you were in a similar situation we have contacts now and uh we’ll make it happen for you and get everything cleared up uh for you to go in the market without any worries or any hassles as you get under contract and rest are sure that you are supported by government agencies that are on the ball true true truth true true true yes so anyway uh if you two are in a similar situation have no fears yeah we can always figure it out we can always figure it out and make it well at a time correct we’ll swallow it so it’s gonna work we’ll make it happen for you okay so uh anyway if you are looking to buy or to list your property have no fears the pickle lady and her sidekick and whether we are due some catastrophic crash as we had back in the late 2000s and the answer to that at least as far as prescott is concerned is we don’t see where that would come from so the the crash in 2008 depending on where you were maybe it was a different time a lot of that was driven by people who had financing that no one should have ever given them that’s right no money down for an eight hundred thousand dollars probably not a good idea yeah so people were buying extra homes on credit and flipping them there’s a lot of stuff that was going on the the short answer on that score is that is not happening it really you know a lot of our clients are retired yep and when you retire this market in particular yeah you know they have a lot of money but not necessarily a lot of income sometimes they struggle to qualify because of things like debt ratios or income ratios right you know the the the ratios and the finances are are not and you know what they don’t weigh that uh they gotta jump those hurdles uh clearly it’s a good loan but they follow the regulations getting financing even when the interest rates are really low you think they’re begging for business guess what if you can’t make the ratio you will not get a loan it ain’t gonna happen it ain’t gonna happen it ain’t gonna happen yeah so yeah we’re not worried about a crash per se and particularly in the press kit market yeah because most of our buyers are cash buyers yes they’re retired um they’re either paying cash or they’re putting substantial amounts down for a down payment and so you know the creeping interest rates it doesn’t bother them so much because they pretty much have a pretty low mortgage yes um so if we’re kind of a unique market here yeah you may have seen there was an article i believe it was in fortune one of those magazines they listed a number of cities around the country we were one of them prescott arizona makes it makes it into this magazine as as one of the towns that is destined uh destined for a price adjustment and the reason they give is that the i’m sorry sorry are you okay um can i help you out yeah give me a hundred real quick real quick let me get that given that uh the reason they give for that is the if you look at the price of homes and divide that by the average income in the town that number is extremely high which would indicate that people are not making enough money to afford the homes there and so that that affects a lot of towns here’s the thing in prescott a lot of people are retired correct they don’t show a lot of income they have a lot of money yes so when you look at that ratio it’s going to be yeah oh you know your your uh uh property value to income is off the chart yeah he’s got four million dollars in the bank right it’s not going anywhere so we say nay to that yeah because just because we are a very unique market yeah they they ran the numbers they picked the top 10 15 cities in the country that popped at the top and they wrote an article about it um obviously they’ve never been to prescott i can’t see why that’s an issue here i don’t know of anyone i can’t think of anyone offhand who’s even close to you know oh it’s going to be difficult for them to maintain the payment on their homes these guys came here to retire and they’re having a great time and they’re going to be here for a while they’re not worried about making their house note yeah because number one either they pay cash yeah or number two they’ve had such a huge down payment their house note is negligible yeah so for us i always keep in mind the prescott market is quite unique yeah um our median age here is 55 and older so these are people who are not moving here for the industry for the jobs to start a new career this is a career test yeah and all of our friends god bless you we hope we can join you one day everybody’s having the time of their lives that’s right uh they’re golfing they’re jeeping they’re you know uh hiking they’re having a fabulous time they’re not really worried about income so when you hear these stories um don’t fret so much about prescott in itself uh this is a huge retirement town i have people who call me and say i’m looking for a 55 plus neighborhood and i’m like can i be honest all of prescott is basically 55 plus yeah it’s it’s it’s essentially a retirement community yeah i mean you don’t need to be in a particular neighborhood um most of our neighbors are retired um we’re kind of one of the few that are not but um don’t fret the crash crash here in prescott yeah i feel like it’s gonna be okay yeah i you know i i struggled to see what would what would do it yeah uh what drives a lot of our home sales here and the home value prices are people coming from other states mostly along the west coast uh that relocate here because it’s more affordable uh it’s a nice place you don’t have to go someplace where it’s a skabillion degrees uh and in 157 humidity or you know mesquite we don’t have any of that right you know it’s a very nice place so people can come here um the cost of living is low we talk in some of our other videos we talk about the arbitrage where you can sell your home where you are now typically some place like california and you can buy a home equivalent and bank a fair amount of money if the prices in california go down they may go down here too as long as we have a a as long as we’re less than california it would still make sense uh to make that move and i i i just i don’t see how um i don’t see how we end up with a bubble i really don’t i i don’t think price prices can’t keep going up the way they have i understand that we all do i think things are going to flatten out i think things are going to moderate i just don’t see a bubble that there’s something artificial that’s been holding this up all along and it’s just gonna crash i think maybe we undervalued real estate after the crash in 2008 for too long and uh and we had a big you know upward correction and and kobe pushed to store that i don’t know i i was surprised to see the prices go up as fast as they did but uh i don’t see them i i don’t see what would is their bubble to pop i don’t know i don’t know at least you know prescott is a very unique market and um we’re kind of a special little bubble here so you can’t really compare us to the other national markets yeah you know that’s my opinion yeah um and we’re small too we’re not a big player it’s not like we need millions of people moving here to get this right i mean do we have a crystal ball no no but i do have a crystal ball but i but i can’t use it to predict the future i’ve tried i just can’t okay so anyway we just thought we’d share this little two-bit uh two cents of information and uh just our personal opinion of course it is an opinion it’s not fact that’s right it’s not scientific but we just thought we’d give our little two cents of info on how we think things are going we are a very special hello folks this is diane randall bro she is the pickle lady i am prescott arizona someone informed us of this new little gift so of course we immediately went out and ordered it share it with you yes you know everyone loves to share pickle paraphernalia this one really tickled us yeah here you go [Music] because everyone everyone should have in their possession a yodel pickle it’s of the utmost importance this is why they hate capitalism i mean i don’t know why hey we were the first ones to buy it we were like oh hell yes let us order this i think i was one of the original investors so we wanted to share with you our yodeling pickles i am the pickle lady here in prescott arizona that is indeed she does not yodel neither i don’t yodel no but i do enjoy a good yodeling pickle as everyone up unfortunately the pickle is green which is the same color as chris there you go maybe you can see it now yeah but uh we cracked up laughing and immediately placed an order uh for the yodeling pickle that’s who we are here you go pickles hi today we’re here to talk about some fire yes i’m sure you’ve heard about it yeah we’ve been we’ve been getting calls people want to know so uh there is a fire yes uh i don’t know if technically it’s in prescott or not prescott is a big incorporated area it includes some areas kind of over the mountain that are really very remote and very woodsy have essentially mountain cabins out there it’s pretty remote yeah it’s pretty remote i i don’t i don’t know honestly if it’s it’s part of the incorporated area or not they say it’s in the area of prescott i don’t know it’s ian prescott but on the news it makes it sound like we’re like it’s just it’s it’s engulfing pressing it proper and we just wanted to share with you that’s not necessarily so yeah um there are some great summer and you know little cabins up in the bradfords yes yes and so those are we are feeling it for people there i don’t mean to minimize that absolutely and those particular areas are are typically where the fires you know because it is heavily wooded and so it’s very easy for a spark from lightning or etcetera to kind of create a fire situation um but for those of us in more of the city part of prescription not so much to worry about we’re not on the evacuation uh unfortunately those areas that are more in the wooded remote areas yeah they are asked to evacuate um but we don’t want you to think that if you for instance if you’re in prescott lakes um we’re not under evacuation order yeah we we have a uh we have a wind down video somewhere i’ll put a link to it where we talk about how uh prescott has a lot of very different terrain so the simple answer is the southwest section of our town is very wooded it’s very mountainous it’s what you typically think of when you think of a mountain town lots of pine trees that kind of thing beautiful yeah it is beautiful it’s a beautiful area as you go south east uh the terrain starts to flatten out the trees begin to thin out and so finally you get out to areas that are bordering on prescott valley that are really essentially prairie lake uh and so the fires there are a completely different animal a lot easier to deal with you don’t have to rain uh much of the city is kind of that way and like prescott lakes is kind of that way it would be hard to set prescott lakes on fire yes and and the great thing is is that our fire department here is is very much um they’re on top of it they’re ahead of the game um they go out and do a lot of preventative fire prevention tactics so we are never in tremendous threat our fire department is very proactive very proud about fire safety and um they’ll even have some prescribed burns so that things don’t get out of hand and don’t get too crazy um we’re on top of it yeah and the fire effort comes out of the city of prescott the uh the the firefighters themselves are based here uh in our regional airport uh is where all of the fire aircraft uh take off from uh so you know we’re hearing chinook helicopters and yeah and all these these fire planes and we salute them i mean we watch them from our deck and we watch them take off and we’re like god bless them god bless all the firefighters out there absolutely uh fighting to uh keep everything at bay yes and keep everything under control without a great loss of property or you know yeah yeah absolutely so the the firefighters are working actually two fires right now there’s one south of prescott and there’s another one in the vicinity of vicinity vicinity infinity flagstaff that’s right uh close to the peaks so uh which is about a hundred miles away i mean so yes i think these guys do anything in that blank in that radius comes out of prescott so you hear the word prescott in combination with fire in arizona all the time doesn’t mean we’re always burning right and i mean these guys are top-notch uh they are on it we are ready we are prepared uh we are prepared before the event even happens and that’s what i love about being prescott uh being in prescott how progressive it is how proactive they are they’re on it so we don’t ever want anyone to fear um loss of you know that you’ll lose property or et cetera yeah yeah there are very few areas where you can’t get fire insurance most areas of prescott um it’s not required no in fact you should know that when you buy a home here i i don’t think yet i’ve run across any contract that required fire insurance or flood insurance for that matter or earthquake correct yeah cheers yeah all of these so we’re pretty um although you may hear these events uh we’re pretty safe and secure um insurance companies if they think you need fire they’ll let you know i’ve yet to run across any that required insurance flood or earthquake yes so uh when you hear these things on the news it is um it sounds pretty scary it is pretty scary it is pretty intimidating um but for the most part the city proper we’re pretty secure yeah yeah so we don’t want you to worry that uh you’ll hear a fire alarm and have to head out in the middle of the night um it doesn’t happen too often unless you’re in more of the remote areas outside in the in the more forested areas yeah that’s exciting anyway we just want to share that and for our folks who are in those areas you know of course our thoughts are always with you and we know you’re in good hands so uh our fire department’s on it yeah so we wanted to share this uh topic with you about fires because as we’re entering into fire season i know this is a big concern for a lot of people especially those coming from california and uh we just want to give you our little two cents on that so if you were looking for any additional information from the pickle lady team yeah the place to go is good morning my fellow little pickle peeps how are you today we hope very well uh this is randall and diane bro he’s randall i’m diane usually yes she’s president arizona lady of prescott arizona we sell real estate but we’re not here to talk about real estate today and today we’re so excited actually this was a tip sent to us from someone who is a regular follower and watcher of our wine dance and so we want to give a shout out to richard ardis um thank you sir thank you he gave us a brilliant idea actually a couple of a couple of football he’s like you should we’re gonna do one today and we’re gonna we’re gonna do another one some other time and we thought wow richard thanks for reaching out to us and telling us you know and he’s so right about this little tip that we want to talk about uh we want to talk about uh one of the bookstores here in prescott yeah it is a very very special bookstore it really is really really cool in fact i was just there this weekend with a friend of mine who is an english major shout out to bee yeah and a librarian and a librarian yeah so she’s super into that and so i said let’s go check it out she’s like yeah i would love to so as soon as we walked in she was like i am so impressed that your little town of prescott has such a progressive uh super cool uh up-to-date uh up to current events yeah uh bookstore as peregrine books on cortez it’s uh yeah that’s quartet yeah it’s amazing if you go in it’s beautifully set up it’s uh honestly you could almost feel like you’re in a bookstore in new york city it’s that cool but the thing that really sets it apart i mean they have a lot of people besides the name i’m not sure i think you need to back up on that yeah i’ll have to look up what a peregrine is it’s cool it’s a bird they have the latest and greatest they have a kid’s hour they have a podium in the back and that’s what my friend was most impressed about was that uh they will have current authors who come and speak and read from their works they’ve got a cute little podium back there and a seating area um it’s really really pretty cool but the coolest thing is the curating and you know that’s kind of hard to find in bookstores i mean you have go in they have lots of books oh it has lots of books but as soon as you start looking at what’s on the shelf particularly in the kind of the entry area uh their uh their staff goes through and they just pull the most fascinating books they all line up i mean you can lose yourself for three hours just right inside the door because it’s just one after the other it’s like that is really fast so they will carry the most pedestrian and the and you know the best sellers but they also have a wide variety for all those intellectuals i mean a wide variety of topics that they cover and they have it all categorized neatly on the shelves and it’s just a beautiful book shop as well yeah you kind of forget you know because i’m i’m a technology person i was an early adapter for uh adopter for kindle and all that stuff and i get that stuff it’s that’s kind of cool and audible i like to listen to vlogs but you know slowly but surely over the years traditional bookstores have been kind of dying out libraries have kind of been changing [Music] and you just forget how nice a good book story is like to go into a bookstore that’s really well done and just the smell of the books that feel that new spell book it’s just you know it just brings you back every time you go there it’s lovely it’s a great experience and for a town this size to be able to support a local bookstore like this yes it just speaks to this is not your chain bookstore yeah it’s not a change this is a very unique experience yeah so for all you eggheads out there yeah richard talks about egg heads and you know i think that’s a really good point press gets a pretty smart town it’s a very smart time uh people here are educated they are cosmopolitan uh this isn’t some podum town you’re going to go and you know it’s not a little wild wild west yeah and every now and then they’ll have movies mostly you know jaws and gone with the wind yeah they’ve got some good yeah yeah this is a very progressive very savvy town intellectual intellectual town yeah peregrines yeah yeah so the egg the egghead thing that uh richard point i think is really appropriate i think a town is smarter than your average town correct so richard we want to cheers to you uh that is a great tip and i don’t know why i didn’t think of it before because i absolutely love paragraphs i love it we go there all the time so anyway if you’re here in town or you move here make sure to check it out it’s lovely you can sit and while away your saturday with a cup of coffee and just sit and read some books and like it was in the olden days like it was no amazon here no amazon here you can actually put your hands on a book and actually read it’s really cool so we just thought we’d share that tip and we thank Prescott Hats

When you get close to the sun or out in the cold, sometimes the most important thing is what's up top.  In this episode, we discuss Prescott's affinity toward hats and demonstrate how they work for some but not so much for others.

well howdy howdy pardon hi hi hi hi this is dianna randall bro cheers she’s pickle lady we’re in prescott arizona that’s right and we’re here to talk to you about something i never thought i’d be doing um but it’s imperative if you move and live in prescott because we are a mile high we’re about fifty four hundred feet yeah we’re about the same elevator same elevation as denver yeah we’re closer to the sun closer to the site not used to that i come from the deep south where we’re actually below sea level um so when i moved here i was like gee whiz i get sunburned so fast like within 30 minutes it’s a thing well hello you’re close to the sun less less atmosphere did you know there are areas on the earth that are so far below sea level that you cannot get sunburned oh like the dead sea is one of those i would say well i would love that so when we moved to the opposite way we’re the opposite we’re nice and high closer to god closer to the sky to the sun and uh i didn’t realize until after i was here for a little while i’m like gee all these people are such nerds they’re all in hats they all look ridiculous i am not doing that um i feel stupid however after a couple of sunburns i was like i see the wisdom i understand so we would go walking with the dogs and she where did you buy these homes these panama jack but they’re uv protected they give you protection uh they cover the back of your neck there’s all these things you learn you gotta have coverage on the back of your neck the top of your little ears because if not you get skin damage and skin cancer yeah so when we take ourselves because yeah we were hats to give us some protection this was her first shot i didn’t know she was doing this she’s always after me about sun protection and sunscreen and all that stuff well uh she went out and she bought these hats she came home and i’m like oh my god i hate that hat she makes me wear them all the time i’ll tell them see you have this little strap so that when the wind won’t blow off your hat it’s a very practical this is a walking hat yeah this is what we call our walking hat exercise hat when we’re out and about in the sunshine and trying to get some good walking in we put this hat on it gives you all overall protection the problem i have is i just always look like an idiot wearing a hat yes she looks great she doesn’t have it i don’t know you have a terrible hat i will say all right so that’s awesome so i yeah so i i went out yes and i okay yeah i tried to spend a little more money get something a little nicer so i got this wait hold on if i i’m not marginally look a little better i don’t know so you look like it you look like this is sanctuary south of france look you look like uh princess uh kelly princess kelly who’s the one who died in her her uh convertible driving around that’s grace princess grace grace grace kelly grace keller is kel get your people straight but anyway this is my central pace it’s just our last name yeah i know you got her name that’s not it’s if her name’s grace kelly you got her penalty princess kelly well that’s her last name okay well she knows my princess grace grace keller but anyway this one i love it’s got a little bow in the back yeah this the one we lost and replaced this is the one i lost and replaced i was very lucky so i wear it with my big shades so i kind of have a european flare yeah i look like i’m clearing the buyers yes you do yes all right so this is my other summer hat which i like too this is just kind of a little short a little little boater a little boater hat isn’t i love it it’s a little short a little sassy there’s a great uh hat store right on whiskey road yes we think it’s called all about hats i think it’s called all about house it’s right right near the corner right by the bistro we took our kids there that our daughter and her boyfriend and everything they put on their heads looked great it did i must have found it we have the best time just just giggling at different hats at fascinators they have caps they have this is my multicolored look so it matches everything so yeah i’m gonna have to try again it’s still not working for me it isn’t where’s your let’s put it on our winter hat yeah so oh so that’s the other thing yeah besides you need to have the windscreen yes you also as you know you lose all your body heat through your head some people have less hair than others so you really lose it faster yeah if if you wear a hat you can be naked in the snow and you won’t even feel it look at this yeah i have this cute little this is my felt bowler boulder hat isn’t it cute this is the best i can do this is we call this my governor hat your governor got that here comes the governor you need some coal so he puts his governor hat on and he has to go shovel some snow over out in the chilly willy weather now when i first moved here was more of a thing because coming from louisiana texas i used to buzz my hair used to keep my hair really really short to try to stay cool and i realized that i don’t have to do that anymore so now i have more normal normal hair a little bit longer and it keeps my head uh warm unlike unlike a lot of my friends you know they don’t really have a whole lot of hair so they all have to wear hats but it’s kind of odd he’s holding on he’s holding options he’s got some yeah still there oh when i’m not wearing a hat and you know and i move my hit the steam just off my head because it’s holding so much heat so that is something we kind of just just for fun we just thought we’d have put on our hats when you move here you will you too will embrace the hat movement even if you never i never wore a hat in my entire life until i moved to prescott so i just saw a video on uh youtube it was about how men never wear hats anymore and one of the big reasons i never really put two and two together but one of the big reasons is automobiles as you’re not in the weather as much and also when you’re in you only a lot of a lot of cars don’t have enough clearance for you’re right that’s hot so so you would knock your hat knock your hat off it’s inconvenient but it’s very convenient here in preston yeah and uh we love that little hat shop right on the square i think it’s called all about hats right did we talk about that it’s a cool shop it’s right next to our donor restaurant it’s right next to the st michael’s uh bistro a couple of doors down if you go in the door and you don’t see a lot of hats you’re in the wrong place you’ll know it you’ll know and if you’re there it’s right there on the website something to keep under your hat when you come here be prepared you too will become a hat aficionado and you’ll be wearing those hats just like we do and you’ll embrace it and you’ll get over Vehicles

Motor Vehicle Registration – Registration $8.00; Air Quality $1.50; Title Fee $4.00; Total Registration: $13.50
Vehicle License Tax – In addition to title and registration fees, Arizona assesses a vehicle license tax in lieu of a personal property tax on all vehicles registered in the State. This is based on the manufacturer’s based retail price for the vehicle, when new, less depreciation. The value of the vehicle is decreased 40% the first year and 15% each year thereafter. You will be charged a rate of $4.00 per $100.00 of the vehicle’s taxable value in any year. This will decrease to a minimum annual charge of $10.00. Required to have an Arizona Standardized Insurance Card.

Taxes

State Income Taxes – Tax rate is 10% to 32% of your Federal Income Tax; For more info, click here.
Income Exemptions – Social Security benefits and up to $2,500 on federal, Arizona state and local government pensions are exempt.

Property Tax – Real property is accessed at the range of 1% – 1.5% of market value of owner occupied property. This includes State, County, Community Colleges, City and Schools. Corporate Income Tax – Flat tax of 6.968%. The minimum amount collected by Arizona Corporate Income Tax is $50.00
Sales Tax – Arizona has a general sales tax of 5.6%. Yavapai County has a .75% sales tax, and the City of Prescott has a 2% sales tax, for a total sales tax of 8.35%
Homestead Exemption – Those who are disabled or whose spouse died while residing in Arizona can receive an exemption of $3,000 off assessed value. TO qualify, the full cash value of one’s home must be less that $203,860.
Estate Tax – None
